Dental Crowns

"To restore the shape and function of broken or badly decayed teeth"

Improving the strength and appearance of the tooth

A Crown (or ‘cap’) is a tooth-shaped covering that fits over a badly decayed or broken down tooth or Dental Implant. It can improve both the strength and appearance of a tooth.

Crowns are the ideal dental restoration for broken, cracked or severely worn down teeth or ones weakened by decay or large fillings. They can restore the shape and function to teeth that are too severely damaged for Cosmetic Fillings to be suitable.

Natural-looking results

Crowns can look as real as an untouched tooth. The tips of the teeth can have a translucency like real teeth which makes them look natural-looking. Our Cosmetic Technician builds a tooth from the complicated preparations we send to him, with the angles being cut to ensure the Crown stays in place, which is one of the greatest concerns of many of our Patients.

Choosing the best Crown makes all the difference

We believe Zirconium is one of the best Crowns available, having been the subject of much research. It is strong enough to be placed anywhere in the mouth, being able to withstand the biting pressure of the front teeth as well as the grinding pressure of the back teeth. However, sometimes, the more recently introduced IPS e.max® crown is our first choice, offering the best of both worlds – strength and durability on one side, translucency and a ‘natural’ look on the other.

Clearly, everyone’s teeth are different, so it’s difficult to generalise. At your appointment, we can discuss in-depth the options suitable for you.
